Tropica Plant Substrate

Tropica Plant Substrate acts as a long term nutrition store for aquarium plants, so ensuring magnificent and healthy plant growth. It is a natural concentrate of clay and sphagnum, laid at the bottom of the gravel layer when you build your aquarium. Clay and sphagnum slowly release nutrients to your aquarium plant roots and binds nutrition from the water into the bottom layer. Removing nutrition from water reduces the risk of undesirable algae growth.

Use :-

Tropica Plant Substrate is laid in a 1 cm thick layer on the bottom of the aquarium, when the aquarium is built.
A layer of gravel of minimum 3-4 cm thick is then laid over the substrate. The gravel acts as a barrier between the concentrated substrate and the water. Plants are planted in the gravel in the normal way and new roots quickly form. When planting, disturb the substrate as little as possible, to avoid clay and sphagnum particles being mixed into the water.
The table below provides recommended amounts for a number of standard aquarium sizes.

Seachem – Flourite Black Sand™

Flourite Black Sand™ is a specially fracted, stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any aquarium environment. It s most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. As it is not chemically coated or treated, it will not alter the pH of the water.
Although pre-washed, it may be rinsed before use to remove residual dust. Dust can also be minimized by filling aquarium slowly and dispersing water so that the substrate bed is not disturbed. Slight initial cloudiness is normal and will clear rapidly (2–12 hours).
